Twitter is ready to be a true news operation
According to the Guardian Online Twitter wants to brake into the news industry. They are looking for someone to run their news operation. Twitter wants to figure out the relationship tool of business news and what it is. Here is a short paragraph from the Guardian Online explaining what they are looking for and what they desire to have as part of their new venture.
There are fewer and fewer jobs in journalism, but last week an ultimate job was posted. Twitter, fast becoming the basic source, tool, and distribution point in news, is looking for someone to run its news operation:
“You will be responsible for devising and executing the strategies that make Twitter indispensable to newsrooms and journalists, as well as an essential part of the operations and strategy of news organizations and TV news networks. You should have a strong vision for the broad potential of Twitter and news, while also being able to rigorously manage and scale the news team’s daily impact.”
Unless this is a run amuck HR job description, that seems to be precisely what Twitter is proposing it wants someone to do: figure out the relationship of the world’s central real-time information tool to the news business, hell, to the very nature of what news is.
Actually, there is more. The notion here in this job description is that Twitter is both a front end for news, a first responder, a first draft of the first draft of history, and, as well, a back end, the fundamental instrument of all journalists, a wire service killer (the AP is still one of the significant costs in most news operations), a dedicated pool of eyes and ears on the ground.
Twitter is the new trend taking over the social networking scene. It is also known as a blogging service. Although the only problem is you can only use up to 140 characters per “tweet” whereas when using word press/blogger you can write a substantial amount. Personally I wouldn’t be the biggest fan of Twitter just yet as I haven’t used it that much. A lot of people around the world are using it and we see many Celebrities tweeting nonstop throughout the morning, noon and night.
After researching Twitter I found that it is good for advertising and promoting small businesses. There are two different accounts you can set up “Promoted accounts” and “Promoted tweets”. With Promoted accounts Twitter looks at your followers and searches for people with similar interests, Twitter will then suggest you in the “who to follow” section. This means that you can connect with people all over the world who can spread the word about your business and ideas. When looking at promoted tweets, Twitter monitors your tweets and promotes your best tweets. Twitter puts your best tweets in front of the right people at the right time. The only time you pay is when someone follows your account or participates in your tweets.
After researching the rankings of Twitter I found that Twitter was ranked number 13 on Twitter, although I could not find the actual figures of Twitter itself this is a Twitter page on Twitter that people follow. It shows that Twitter has 16180028 followers, it is following 120 people, it has 1537 updates and it joined 73 months ago.
Businesses who use Twitter as a means of advertising and promoting their business are businesses such as; Alter, Eldora Speedway, Hampton Coffee Company, Prefix Magazine, Drew Ressler and Whipped Bakeshop to name but a few.
Twitter Demographics (US);
It has been shown that 15% of adult online users use Twitter and 8% use it daily (February 2012). By N
ovember 2012 users had almost doubled from 8% to 15%. Twitter usage in young adults is increasingly growing with figures ranging from 18% in May 2011 to 31% in February 2012. As there is a growing demand for smartphones there is a growing demand for the Twitter App on their phones. This means that there is more users tweeting daily, as technology grows, tweets grow.
I think that Twitter is a brilliant way of promoting and advertising your business. It is showing how we can use social media not only in our personal lives but also in our careers.

This link shows a new feature about Twitter customer service and shows 10 brands doing it. This can help us if we set up a business online and can use this feature when dealing with consumers and when customers need help. I find this interesting as it shows how much technology has improved.
